A woman was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after falling on a Highlands mountain.

Police were alerted at 4.15pm today after the climber injured her shoulder on a Glencoe peak. Members of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team went to her aid on Aonach Dubh, one of the Three Sisters.

A Royal Navy Sea King helicopter from HMS Gannet airlifted her to Belford Hospital, Fort William, for treatment to her injuries.

Police said no further details of the climber would be released.

The rescue is the second in two days in Glencoe. Yesterday a man was injured on Aonach Eagach, about 2km from today’s incident. He was airlifted to hospital in Fort William by a Coastguard helicopter, the RAF Lossiemouth Sea King having been called to three separate mountain rescues in the Cairngorms.

The 892m (3,222ft) Aonach Dubh is the westernmost of the three peaks know as the Three Sisters, overlooking the main A82 through the Pass of Glencoe.
