A walker was airlifted to hospital after falling from a peak in the Cuillin on Skye.

The 57-year-old, from the West Midlands, suffered a suspected broken pelvis after falling about 10m (33ft) while descending Coir’a’Ghrundda on Sgurr Alasdair.

The accident happened about 6pm yesterday, Sunday. His walking companion made his way down to Glen Brittle to raise the alarm an hour and a half after the incident. 12 members of the Skye Mountain Rescue Team went to his aid and found the walker about 9.30pm. The Stornoway Coastguard helicopter then flew the injured man to the Dr Mackinnon Memorial Hospital, Broadford, for treatment.

The accident happened when the pair were descending wet rock on The Slabs, after summiting the 993m (3,258ft) peak, the highest point of the Cuillin ridge.
