Police in Cumbria have released the identity of the man whose body was found on a fell earlier this week.

Richard Hampson, 56, of Port Haverigg, Millom, was found by a walker on Black Combe, on the south-western edge of the Lake District national park, shortly after 4pm on Sunday.

He had been reported missing the previous Thursday, after last being seen at St Mary’s Church, Whicham.

Members of the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team recovered the body along with officers from Cumbria Constabulary.

A police spokesperson said: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death at this time and the case has been passed to the coroner.”
