Two mountain rescue teams were called out to search for a pair of missing walkers in the Lake District.

Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team members were joined by colleagues from the Coniston team on Friday after two walkers went missing in the High Dam area, north of Newby Bridge.

The walkers were reported missing at 8.20pm and a search started. Members of the Duddon and Furness team found the pair unharmed about 10pm and helped them off the fell and to safety.

The following day, Coniston MRT members tended to a runner in the Coniston Puma Trail Race who fell in Torver Common Wood about 3pm and suffered a suspected broken arm. Jeff Carroll of the team said: “Fortunately MRT members were marshalling the event and were quickly able to assist and stretcher the casualty to a waiting ambulance for transfer to Furness General Hospital.”

Later the same day the Coniston team was called by police about 8.20pm to help a pair of walkers lost and benighted in Grizedale Forest. Mr Carroll said: “As they were able to advise their position relatively well, members of Coniston MRT were able to find the couple, who were unhurt, quite quickly and reunite them with their car.”
