Police are appealing for the public’s help in tracing a missing fellwalker.

Gwenda Merriot, from Wilton near Marlborough in Wiltshire, was last seen by family members today, Wednesday, in Ambleside in the Lake District

The 60-year-old, described by police as a keen fellwalker, has not been seen since.

Ms Merriot is described as 5ft 6in tall, slightly build, with short spiky salt-and-pepper hair. She was last seen at 11.30am in the Rydal Road car park in the Lakeland town, wearing a blue and black top, brown walking boots and carrying a blue rucksack.

Cumbria Constabulary is appealing for anyone who has seen a woman matching the walker’s description to contact officers on 0845 33 00 247. They are also keen for local taxi and bus drivers to think back and to get in touch if they think they may have transported Ms Merriot to another location.
