A caver was rescued from a Cumbria pothole after collapsing and suffering from hypothermia.

Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation went to the aid of the 20-year-old man after being alerted about 6.10pm yesterday, Saturday.

The man was at the bottom of the 23m (75ft) entrance pitch to Cow Pot on Casterton Fell, 3km (2 miles) west of the Yorkshire Dales national park.

The man was treated at the scene by members of the Clapham-based rescue team, then hauled to the surface and helped to nearby Bullpot Farm and a waiting ambulance.

Cow Pot is part of the extensive Ease Gill system on the Lancashire-Cumbria boundary.
