The woman was walking on the Dales Way in Upper Wharfedale

A woman was airlifted from a long-distance path after she was injured by cows while walking with her dogs.

The woman was on the Dales Way above Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales today when she was trampled by the animals.

Rescuers said the incident happened despite her letting the dogs free.

Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association was called out about 1.20pm to the site and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance also flew to the scene, where the walker had suffered a suspected broken leg.

A rescue team spokesperson said: “After treatment by an air ambulance paramedic she was transported by helicopter to a waiting road ambulance where she was transferred with the assistance of team members.”
