A walker was rescued after suffering a suspected broken leg on a Lakeland path today.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid after being alerted about 4.40pm.

The 52-year-old had slipped on the path leading to Scarth Gap from Gatesgarth in the Buttermere valley.

He was treated by members of the rescue team and taken by ambulance to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. 17 team members took part in the rescue, which was completed about 6.30pm.
