Twenty Patterdale team members were involved in the rescue

A walker was flown to hospital after suffering a head injury when she tripped.

The 52-year-old Carlisle woman was with friends when she fell on to a rock and hit her head.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 6.50pm on Monday and went to the scene of the incident in Grisedale.

Rescuers treated the walker and then carried her by stretcher to the Cumbria Air Ambulance, which had landed in a nearby field.

She was then airlifted to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.
