The body found in the southern Highlands on Tuesday has been identified as that of missing man David Donnelly.

Members of the Central Scotland Police underwater search unit found the 37-year-old’s body in the River Leny near the site where he had last been seen camping at Anie Straight near the shores of Loch Lubnaig.

A spokeswoman for the police said a formal identification had taken place and the family informed.

She added: “A post-mortem examination will be carried out and the investigation into the circumstance surrounding his death continues. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Walkers and outdoor enthusiasts were put on alert for sightings of Mr Donnelly after he went missing on Friday. He had been camping with friends close to the A84, the main road north out of Callander.

Mountain rescue teams and Search and Rescue Dogs Association handlers and dogs joined the search for the Denny man.
