Mr Bell's remains were found by a walker between Crianlarich and Tyndrum

Police have named the man whose remains were found near the West Highland Way last month.

The body of Victor Bell, 43, of York, was found by a walker in woods near Crianlarich, close to the main A82 road on 5 May.

Central Scotland Police said Mr Bell was reported missing in July 2008 and North Yorkshire Police have been searching for him since then.

Mr Bell had last been seen by his family when he left for a camping trip in March four years ago. They raised the alarm on 11 July when he had not returned.

He was a regular camper and made frequent trips from his Yorkshire home to Scotland.

A police spokesperson said: “His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
