Team members stretcher the woman from the site of the incident

A walker was rescued after injuring herself while walking along a lakeside path.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 2.45pm today when the 21-year-old woman from west Cumbria slipped and injured her ankle.

Nineteen members of the team went to the scene on the shore path at Crummock Water.

Two of the team’s doctors treated the woman at the site and then she was stretchered to a waiting ambulance at Highpark, near the northern end of the lake.

The Cockermouth team which was established in 1953, was called out to 80 incidents last year, its busiest yet.
