The Wasdale Screes path, scene of the animal rescue

A mountain rescue team used their boat to rescue an injured dog.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out yesterday, Friday, to the Wasdale Screes path.

The team was alerted about 4.20pm and used its rescue boat to cross Wast Water to reach the dog and its owner who were on the boulder field, while other team members set off on foot to the site, below Illgill Head in the Lake District.

A spokesperson said: “The injured dog was wrapped in a vacuum mattress and then the two dogs and their owner were recovered to the head of the lake using the team rigid inflatable boat.

“They were then given a left back to their car.”

The rescue ended about 7pm.
