A walker was airlifted from the fells after suffering head injuries in a fall.

The woman was walking near Cove Bridge on the Walna Scar Road track near Coniston yesterday when it is believed she was blown off her feet by high winds.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 11.10am and 11 members went to the woman’s aid.

She was treated for her injuries at the scene and then flown from the fell by the North West Air Ambulance for further medical treatment at Furness General Hospital, Barrow-in-Furness.
