A family had to be rescued after getting stuck on a Lakeland fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by police at 3.20pm today after the group of four called to say they were stuck on steep ground on the face of the fell, overlooking Loweswater.

Sixteen members of the volunteer team were involved in the rescue, during which the family was helped to safety from the 512m (ft) fell.

They were taken back to their vehicles in the village of Loweswater.
