The team is appealing for information about its missing plaques

A volunteer rescue team is appealing for help in recovering two plaques that were removed from its headquarters.

The signs were stolen from the Grassington base of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.

The team, which carries out rescues both on the fells and in the caves of the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas, said the plaques will have little scrap value but are of great worth to the team.

The rescue team believes the signs were removed between Sunday lunchtime and Monday lunchtime this week.

Both are circular. One is blue, with the words Mountain Rescue Committee round its edges and Rescue Post inscribed within the inner circle. It also has a white cross on a red circular background.

The other has the words Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Assoc round its edge, with a white cross and blue saltire on a red background.

Any members of the public who can help track down the missing plaques are asked to contact PC Richard Sutcliffe at Grassington police station by dialling 101.
