Police in Cumbria say the Kirkstone Pass has been closed due to icy conditions.

The A592 links Windermere and Ambleside with Patterdale and Ullswater.

The route was initially closed to recover an overturned car following a collision about 500m on the Patterdale side of the Kirkstone Pass Inn earlier this morning.

The road has now been shut and the closure will be reviewed this afternoon after county council highways workers have treated it.

The Struggle, the steep route between Ambleside and the Kirkstone Pass Inn, has also been closed.
