Mountain rescuers searching for a missing walker discovered a large wildfire.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team members alerted firefighters then stood guard to protect members of the public until the fire could be put out.

The team was in the area round Carmel, near Caernarfon, looking for Susan Wright, who has not been seen since the Easter weekend.

Members came across the large gorse fire at 9.05pm on Wednesday.

A spokesperson said: “The blaze fell within one of our search areas, and close to a nearby road and adjoining properties.

“The team alerted the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and mobilised to the area to protect the scene and keep the members of the passing public away from the blaze.

“The fire and rescue service arrived on scene in good time, and managed to get the fire under control with their specialist equipment.”

The Aberglaslyn team stood down from the fire 45 minutes later and resumed the search for Ms Wright.
