A walker was airlifted from a Snowdonia mountain after being seriously injured when he fell more than 600ft.

The man is critically ill in hospital after the incident on Wednesday on Carnedd y Filiast at the northern end of the Glyderau range.

The alarm was raised by two rock climbers after the fallen walker’s dog was heard barking by two climbers nearby. He had fallen about 200m from the 821m (2,694ft) mountain near the Atlantic Slabs.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was alerted about 3pm after the climbers rang 999.

Chris Lloyd of the rescue team said the crew of a Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey was also alerted.

He said: “While team members gathered at Oggie Base, the Sea King went straight to the casualty and was able to winch him out.

“He was flown directly to hospital in Bangor where he remains critical but is showing signs of improvement.”

He added that team members went up on to the hill today to recover the fallen walker’s property and mount a search for his dog, but were unable to find the animal.
