A walker was injured and his dog was killed when they were attacked by cattle.

The incident happened on the Mastiles Lane track above Malham in the Yorkshire Dales today.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 2.40pm after the incident near the Roman Camp on the green lane, which links Malhamdale with Wharfedale.

The 56-year-old man suffered an injury to his arm and other injuries in the attack.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: “Following treatment by CRO the casualty was transported down to Settle in a team vehicle for transfer to the ambulance service.

“Unfortunately the dog was killed.”
