The walker slipped near the summit of Loughrigg

A walker was stretchered from a Lake District fell after slipping and injuring his ankle.

The man was walking on Loughrigg today when he slipped on waterlogged ground near the 335m (1,099ft) summit of the fell, and suffered a suspected fracture.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 12.20pm and nine members were involved in rescuing the walker.

He was stretchered from the hill overlooking Ambleside in an operation lasting 2½ hours.
