A climber was rescued from a north Wales route after falling and injuring his knee.

The 31-year-old was climbing with a companion at Bwlch y Moch at Tremadog when he slipped.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 5.15pm on Sunday to aid the injured man.

A team spokesperson said: “Both he and his partner had been attempting an obscure single pitch climb close to top of Belshazzar descent, when the lead climber could not get hold towards the end of the route.

“While deciding to back off he slipped but his right foot became caught, and he dislocated his knee having fallen a short distance.

“The team deployed 11 members from its headquarters at Porthmadog along with two Land Rover Ambulances.

“Upon their arrival, his knee had relocated by its own accord; therefore the injury was splinted prior to him being placed in a stretcher.

“The male was then lowered down the descent path to the roadside a short distance away to be met by the Welsh Ambulance Service.”

His climbing partner then took him to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

The rescue lasted 2½ hours.
