An injured walker was airlifted to hospital after gashing his leg badly in a fall on a north Wales hillside.

The 20-year-old man was walking with a friend near Llyn y Wrysgan, near Tanygrisiau yesterday when he suffered a deep cut to his leg.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.45pm and six members went to the scene. The team also asked for help from the neighbouring South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team which was in the Trawsfynydd area.

Gethin Edwards of Aberglaslyn MRT said: “Owing to the reported seriousness of the injury, an RAF rescue helicopter from Valley on Anglesey was also requested to attend.

“Contact was made with the male’s friend, who luckily had a limited knowledge of first aid and with guidance was able to dress the wound and stop the bleeding.

“Upon reaching the pair, both teams were able to assist in stabilising the male, prior to him being winched into the helicopter.

“He was then evacuated to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.”

The rescue ended about 6pm.
