A woman was airlifted to hospital after injuring her head in a fall on a Lakeland fell.

The 23-year-old fell about 15m (50ft) on loose ground while walking on Glenridding Dodd.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 11.10am yesterday, and the Great North Air Ambulance’s Guardian of the North aircraft flew to the scene from Teesside.

A Patterdale MRT spokesperson said: “North West Ambulance Service also attended and, along with team members, treated the casualty for a head wound.

“Due to the broken ground and steepness of the slope, a rope-lowering system was set up and the casualty was lowered on a stretcher to safer ground.”

The helicopter was able to land close by and flew to the walker to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.
