Police have named the man who died after falling in the Northern Corries of Cairn Gorm on Tuesday.

Owen Griffiths, 25, of Evesham, Worcestershire, was airlifted from Coire an t-Sneachda by a Coastguard helicopter from Inverness, but died of his injuries in hospital in Aberdeen.

Police Scotland said Mr Griffiths’s family would not be issuing a statement.

Staff from Glenmore Lodge who were on the mountain at the time, and members of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team went to the fallen climber’s aid.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Mountain rescue team personnel who attended to Mr Griffiths are thanked for their assistance.”
