Alan Gibson was reported missing in the Achnashellach area

Rescuers searching for two missing brothers who went missing in the Highlands have found a body.

Police Scotland said the man has been formally identified as Alan Gibson.

The search is continuing for Mr Gibson’s brother Neil, who went hillwalking with him in the Achnashellach area of Strathcarron in Thursday.

The brothers were reported missing that evening when they failed to return from their walk.

The body of Alan Gibson, 56, was found after a day of extensive searching by members of Torridon and Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Teams, a Coastguard helicopter and handlers and animals from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association.

A police spokesperson said: “The family of Alan have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this very sad time.”

Police said the operation to find Neil Gibson, 63, will continue into Sunday.
