Ben Nevis, scene of yesterday's incident

A walker was airlifted from Britain’s highest mountain yesterday after slipping while coming down from the peak.

Eleven members of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team went to the woman’s aid after the incident, which happened at about 2.05pm on Friday.

A Coastguard helicopter was also called to the scene on Ben Nevis and the walker was airlifted to Belford Hospital, Fort William, for treatment to an ankle injury.

Northern Constabulary said the woman’s details would not be released.
