A holidaymaker was able to continue his Lakeland sojourn after being rescued and treated by volunteers today.

The 75-year-old man slipped and tumbled about 6m (20 feet) on Loughrigg, suffering a gash to his head and cuts and grazes.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team went to the walker’s aid after being alerted about 12.50pm.

He was treated at the scene on the popular fell overlooking Rydal Water, then taken to safety by rescuers.

After a paramedic examined him at the Ambleside rescue headquarters, he was able to leave and continue his holiday.

The incident was Langdale Ambleside’s 56th of the year.
