The camper injured herself on rocky ground above Gordale Scar

A teenager was airlifted from a fellside in the Yorkshire Dales after injuring herself during an early morning walk.

The 17-year-old was camping at Gordale House in Malhamdale and went for a walk up the ridge on New Close Knotts overlooking the campsite.

Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation were called out about 8.05am.

A team spokesperson said: “Quite high on the ridge she slipped and tumbled down rocks, hitting her head and sustaining back and leg injuries.

“Following treatment by CRO the casualty was stretchered up to the top of the ridge for evacuation by air ambulance.”

The rescue was the team’s 18th of the year.
