A teenager on a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award had to be rescued after collapsing on a fell.

The 14-year-old girl was on a footpath near Hoober Edge above the Yorkshire Dales village of Malham when the incident happened yesterday afternoon.

Members of the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation, which operates both on the Dales fells and in its caves and potholes, were alerted at 12.50pm yesterday, Sunday.

The girl was with a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award group on Kirkby Fell, between Malham and Stockdale, when she was reported to have collapsed with a medical condition.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: “CRO attended and, following examination by paramedics, assisted the casualty down to team vehicles for transport off the hill and transfer to a road ambulance in Malham.”
