Police have named the walker who died after a fall from Crinkle Crags on Saturday.

Stephen Kevin Aindow, 47, of Southport, Merseyside, was with friends coming down from the mountain when he fell about 12.50pm.

The group had strayed on to steep and difficult terrain between Shelter Crags and Gunson Knott.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson said: “His friends contacted police who coordinated the rescue, deploying members of Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and air support was provided by RAF Valley.

“Sadly, Mr Aindow died at the scene. His family have been informed.”

The police spokesperson added there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death at this time and the details have been passed to the coroner.
