The walker who died after falling more than 800ft on Snowdon has been named.

Steven Smith, 48, of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, was walking with a companion on the mountain on Saturday when he slipped on ice and snow, falling into Clogwyn Coch.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by two separate calls from people on the hill, and a team doctor was at the scene within 15 minutes but confirmed Mr Smith had not survived his fall.

Coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones has opened an investigation into the death of Mr Smith, who worked as a postman.
